Pre-nursing students taking courses to prepare for matriculation into a nursing program; Attending classes and taking no less than six (6) credits per semester. Involvement in student nursing organizations and/or community health activities; Document academic achievement; Establish financial need; U.S. Citizen or Alien with U.S. Permanent Resident Status/Alien Registration Number; High school students are not eligible to apply; Students graduating prior to December 2012 are ineligible to apply.

U.S. citizens and students with an Alien Registration number currently enrolled in state-approved schools of nursing or pre-nursing in associate degree, baccalaureate, diploma, generic doctorate, and generic master’s programs. Funds are not available for graduate study unless it is for a first degree in nursing. RN to BSN/MSN and LPN/LVN to RN students are also eligible.

Scholarship Description: The NSNA Foundation awards over $125,000 annually in the general scholarship program. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,500. US. Your school/college of nursing’s zip code determines eligibility for this new scholarship program which is supported by fund-raising events sponsored by Johnson & Johnson. Funds for this scholarship program are supported by contributors in selected regions.The scholarships are based on academic achievement, financial need, and involvement in nursing student organizations and community activities related to health care. Additional criteria may be required by some sponsors. Scholarships are awarded in the spring of 2012 for use the 2012 – 2013 academic year.

Scholarship Description:The Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship is awarded to students who are in financial need and are accepted and enrolled into an accredited school of nursing. There are many people who would like to go to school to become a nurse but lack the money that they need to be able to get into school. This is not a problem because there are many great scholarships which are available to help you get the money that you need.

In fact, many like the Caroline E. Holt scholarship are designed specifically for those without the money necessary to go to college.Assuming that you will meet all of the requirements for the scholarship and that you will be able to get your application in on time, you will be in the running to receive $1,000 which can be used towards your education. This will help to make a severe dent in the amount that you will have to pay for your educational costs. Postgraduate Scholarships on offer for study in 2011

Scholarships of up to $6,000 are available to Registered Nurses and Midwives who are working in full or part time permanent positions in the NSW public health system. These scholarships are provided to assist with educational expenses directly associated with postgraduate study.

Applications open 1^st December 2010 and close 1^st March 2011 at 5.00pm.
Late applications will not be accepted.

The overall aim of these scholarships is to support the recruitment, retention and skill development of registered nurses and midwives currently working in the NSW public health system.

The number of scholarships allocated is subject to total funds available within the 2011 postgraduate scholarship budget. Applicants will be subject to cull, based on scholarship criteria, and the provision of required supporting documents within the required timeframe.

Scholarships will be offered under the following categories:

Category 1 - Clinical Studies (including Postgraduate study leading to registration as a midwife)
Category 2 - Education
Category 3 - Management
The Nursing and Midwifery post graduate scholarships on offer for 2011 consist of a single payment which is dependent upon the postgraduate qualification being undertaken. Scholarships will be awarded as a contribution toward the cost of courses at the following levels:

Postgraduate Study	Amount

Masters Program	$6,000

NOTE: Only one scholarship per program of study will be awarded.
For example:Ms Jones enrols in a Graduate Diploma in 2011 and intends to take two or three years to complete this course. If she was deemed to be successful and awarded $4,000 for study in 2011, she is not eligible to apply for another scholarship in 2012 or 2013 for the same program of study.
NOTE: Only one scholarship will be awarded to an applicant in a three year time frame.
For example:Ms Jones applies for and is awarded a $2,000 scholarship in 2011 to undertake a Graduate Certificate. Ms Jones completes the Graduate Certificate and in 2012 decides to apply for a Masters. She will not be eligible to apply for a scholarship until 2014.
The Scholarships are not offered to support research projects. Funding will not be available for courses studied outside Australia or for courses run by the College of Nursing that are funded by the Department of Health.
Mental health and drug and alcohol postgraduate scholarships are funded by the Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Office and administered by the Nursing and Midwifery Office.

Transitional Arrangements

Applicants who have already commenced a post graduate qualification and awarded a Nursing and Midwifery scholarship prior to 1^st December 2010 will be considered for a scholarship in 2011. Successful applicants may however be awarded an amount up to the amount now available.
For example:
Ms Jones was studying part time in a Graduate Diploma Program in 2010 and received funding of $2000 she would be eligible for a scholarship of $2000 for 2011. She would then not be eligible to apply for any further funding to complete this program.

How to Apply

Category 1 – CLINICAL STUDIES
Criteria for Application

• The course being studied should relate to your current role or role being sought. Applicants in other roles must be able to provide evidence of requiring the clinical expertise. Clinical studies may include patient education such as Diabetes Education.
• Applicants are required to submit an essay and describe in no more than 250 words how the qualification being studied will make a positive contribution to your current role and workplace.
• Applicants undertaking Postgraduate study leading to registration as a midwife are required to submit an essay describing in no more than 250 words your understanding of the role of a midwife in the current Australian health setting.
• Priority will be given to:
  1. Postgraduate study leading to registration as a midwife.
  2. Clinical specialties that are known to be actively recruiting positions such as mental health, drug and alcohol.
  3. Persons who work sixteen (16) or more hours per week in the clinical speciality being studied.

Category 2– EDUCATION
Criteria for Application

• Applicants are required to submit an essay describing in no more than 250 words how the qualification being studied will make a positive contribution to your current role and workplace.
• Priority will be given to:
  1. Applicants who are currently employed or acting as a nurse/midwifery educator or clinical educator without prior tertiary education qualifications.
  2. Applicants in other roles who can provide evidence of requiring the educational knowledge

Category 3 – MANAGEMENT
Criteria for Application

• Applicants are required to describe in no more than 250 words how the qualification being studied will enable you to fulfil the key priorities of a nursing/midwifery management role.
• Priority will be given to:
  1. Currently employed or acting for a minimum of 3 months in a nursing or midwifery management position without prior tertiary management qualifications.
  2. Currently employed or acting as a nurse or midwife manager for a minimum of 3 months and seeking to upgrade existing tertiary qualification.
  3. Currently employed and working as a registered nurse or registered midwife with at least three years experience in nursing/midwifery.

Essential Criteria for ALL Scholarship Categories

The following criteria must be met for these scholarship categories:

• Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia.
• Currently employed permanently working full time or part time as a registered nurse or registered midwife within the NSW public health system.
• Must be enrolled in an Australian postgraduate course in 2011 that is accredited under the Higher Education Act (2001) of the relevant jurisdiction.

Essential Documentation

You are required to send the following four (4) or five (5) documents to support your application. These documents are to be sent to the Nursing and Midwifery Office in the NSW Department of Health by 1st March 2011:

1. Evidence of your Enrolment in an Australian postgraduate Nursing or Midwifery course in 2011. This document must include your name, the name of the course, the year of study and a list of the subjects you have enrolled in for 2011. Generic information about course subjects will not be accepted.
   NOTE: If your enrolment confirmation is unavailable at the time you apply, please provide a brief letter indicating your intention to enrol and forward your enrolment confirmation so that your application can be progressed.
2. A Letter from Your Employer in the following format:
   • Letter on Health Service letterhead from your employee services department or immediate manager;
   • Must be dated and signed (within in the last 3 months)
   • State your name;
   • State the title of your position;
   • State your employment status; (full-time, part-time or casual), and
   • State how long you have been employed in this position.
     NOTE: Applicants undertaking Postgraduate study leading to registration as a midwife must show proof of having concurrent employment in a recognised student midwifery position in a maternity service.
3. A signed copy of the Australian Taxation Office 'Statement by a Supplier' form which can be found at

Basic Requirements to be Considered for Admission

• A grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale) for total credits completed during the last two years of a baccalaureate program.
  
• A 3-credit undergraduate statistics course must have been successfully completed within the last five (5) years. For the Fall 2011 Program, this means that statistics should have been taken no earlier than Fall 2006. You may apply for the program even if your prerequisite statistics course is in progress. Punky and Mike Gaspar Pay it Forward Nursing Fund

The charitable purpose shall be a loan benefit to any admitted upper division graduate degree nursing student that has exhausted all means of financial aid at The University of Toledo. The student must be in good acadmic standing in their respective program(s). All students must be U.S. citizens. The student will sign a contract that they agree to pay back their 'loan' with no interest or fines when they are in a position to do so over the next five years.

Ruth Rowland Alteneder Scholarship

Established in 2001 and endowed in 2006 by Ruth R. Alteneder (PhD '91), professor emerita and associate dean ofthe College of Nursing graduate program. Income from this fund supports scholarships for graduate nursing students, with first preference given to those interested in women's health.

Award is based on communication skills, academic performance and interest in working with vulnerable populations.

Melissa Herstrum Scholarship

Award given to sophomore or junior level students currently accepted into The University of Toledo nursing program full time, male or female, with a preference given to those who are part of a national, Greek social organization. Scholarship for a full-time incoming nursing student. Scholarship is based on merit and need, and is not renewable.

William Neill Scholarship

For junior honor students taking pre-medical courses or junior honor students pursuing the four-year nursing course in the College of Health Science and Human Service. Based on academic achievement, leadership, citizenship, career objectives and community activities.

Lisa L. Neiswander Memorial Scholarship Fund

Scholarship for part-time or full-time students enrolled in a nursing program within the College of Health Science and Human Service at The University of Toledo. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. First preference will be given to a student who is a licensed practical nurse and who is completing requirements to become a registered nurse. If none apply or are eligible, second preference will go to a registered nurse of other licensed allied health professional holding an associate degree, who is completing a baccalaureate degree in any allied health profession. If none apply or are eligible, scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets the general scholarship requirements who is most deserving or in need of scholarship assistance. Current recipients may reapply each year.

Riverside Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship

Scholarship for University of Toledo nursing students entering their final two years of the nursing program. This scholarship is based primarily on financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid, but a minimum GPA of 3.0 is also required. Preference will be given to non-traditional students. The recipient will receive the scholarship for the final two years of his/her nursing program.

St. Vincent School of Nursing Scholarship

For nursing students who carry the highest GPA. Two $1000 awards will be made each semester.

Robert S. and Elsie Thompson Memorial

This scholarship is for full-time UT nursing students in their final two years of their program. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 or higher. Award is based on financial need.

[Nursing Scholarships] Mary Foley Nursing Scholarship

The Foley Nursing Scholarship was established to provide scholarship opportunities to students in the Health Care UST MBA program who are nurses (R.N.s) or certified occupational health nurses (C.O.H.N.s). All nurses accepted into the program can apply for these scholarships, which are awarded on an annual basis.

Nurses applying to the program can be considered for a Dean’s Scholarship distribution of the Foley Award if they complete their application by the admission deadline and are accepted into the program. GRANTS
Grants are free money and do not have to be repaid. Normally grants are awarded to students with high financial need. Federal formulas determine who can be awarded these grants. The most common grant is called the Pell Grant. You must complete the FAFSA application to determine eligibility. The Pell Grant is only available to Undergraduates working toward their first Bachelor's degree who also demonstrate a high financial need.

LOANS
Loans are funds that are borrowed and must be repaid. There are several different types of loans for students, including federal and private. Stafford Loans are federal loans for Undergraduates and Graduates and eligibility is based on financial need. Grad PLUS Loans are available for Graduate students and eligibility is based on credit. Loans are available (PLUS Loans) for parents of Dependent Undergraduate students, eligibility is based on credit. Private Student Loans are also available based on credit. Plan carefully if you choose to borrow a student loan. If you are offered a student loan as part of your financial aid award, you have the option to accept, reduce, or decline the loan. While loans may be necessary in order for you to attend college, students should borrow conservatively.

Aggregate Loan Limits: Borrowers of federal Title IV loans are subject to aggregate loan limits. There is a cap on the total amount a student is allowed to borrow. It is very important for students to be aware of their lifetime loan totals and their aggregate loan limits. Students need to borrow conservatively, consider how much they will need to borrow in the future, and know when they will reach their aggregate limit. Students can access their Title IV loan information at NSLDS and receive a comprehensive review of all Federal Family Education Loan Program Loans, Direct Loans, Perkins Loans, and Pell grants they have received. Students must have a PIN to access their information.

All Pre-Nursing and Nursing students who may be attending California State University San Marcos, and who are interested in securing scholarships or any form of financial aid for 2011-2012, are encouraged to complete a 2011-2012 General Scholarship application and essay. It is a very simple process and could possibly result in hundreds or thousands of dollars! The application is available online at www.csusm.edu/finaid/scholarship. The instructions for the essay are also included on this Web site. The completed application can be emailed, faxed, mailed or dropped off, to the attention of Michele Ojeda, in Cougar Central (3rd floor of Craven Hall). Army ROTC Nurse Officer Program provides scholarship, leadership, and job opportunities to prospective undergraduate college nursing students.

Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. awards $50,000 annually in scholarships at the national, regional, and local levels to minority nursing students.

ExceptionalNurse.com awards a $250 scholarship to a qualified student with a disability. Preference is given to undergraduates.

Flo's Cookie Jar provides emergency grants-in-aid, not to exceed $2,000, for students in a Generic/Basic BSN or LVN to BSN program.

Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities offers scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students attending a HACU Member or Partner college or university.

The Indian Health Service (IHS) administers a program to help repay undergraduate and graduate loans of health professionals in return for full-time clinical service in Indian health programs.

Maryland State Nursing Scholarship is available to Maryland residents seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree in nursing.

National Alaska Native American Indian Nurses Association (NANAINA) awards 10 student members enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate nursing program with $500 Merit Awards annually.

National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) awards $2,000 annually to students earning a master's degree in a maternal-child nursing program and $1,000 to student members enrolled in any level nursing program, including baccalaureate.

National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) offers a Student Nurse of the Year award to an NBNA member in pursuit of a baccalaureate or other advanced nursing degree.

National Health Service Corps, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has information about scholarships and loan repayment programs for health care professionals who practice in a medically underserved area.

National Student Nurses' Association offers a scholarship program for students enrolled in baccalaureate, generic doctorate, generic master's, diploma, or associate degree programs.

Nurse Loan Repayment and Scholarship Program administered by The Division of Nursing at HRSA, is available for registered nurses. Participants must serve at a health facility in an underserved area to receive loan repayments.

Nurses' Educational Funds, Inc. offers a scholarship for nurses enrolled in an accredited master's or doctoral level nursing program.

Oncology Nursing Society Foundation awards academic scholarships specifically for students pursuing bachelor's degrees.

New Careers in Nursing Scholarships Available

The William F. Connell School of Nursing was awarded a $100,000 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New Careers in Nursing grant for the academic year 2010-2011. The program supports scholarships for ten (10) students seeking an accelerated master’s degree in nursing to increase the number of nurses within the profession and simultaneously increase diversity in nursing. The program provides scholarships to students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds.

To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. You must also be:

• From an underrepresented minority in nursing

and/or

• From a disadvantaged background. A student from a disadvantaged background is defined as someone who:

• Comes from an environment that has inhibited the individual from obtaining the knowledge, skill, and abilities required to enroll in and graduate from a school (environmentally disadvantaged)

or

• Comes from a family with an annual income below a level which is based on low-income thresholds (economically disadvantaged by 2009 Health and Human Services Poverty Guidelines). In order to determine disadvantaged status, regardless of independent/dependent status of a student, the student’s parents' income information must be used under the “economic” definition.

We currently have two (2) scholarships available for this academic year 2010-2011. Students must be prepared to begin the program in spring 2011, taking 9 credits of coursework.

UMDNJ - School of Nursing is pleased to be among the first institutions in the nation to receive funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) through RWJF New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program. Through this program, scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each will be distributed to second degree, entry-level nursing students in our accelerated BSN program (offered in both Newark and Stratford, NJ) during the 2009-2010 academic year. Award preference is given to students from African American and Hispanic backgrounds, groups which are underrepresented in nursing.
