Guidelines
Nursing Scholars, McKesson Foundation, Inc. has established the McKesson Pharmacy Scholarship Program to assist pharmacy students who plan to continue their education. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for study at an accredited School of Pharmacy of the student's choice.
The McKesson Pharmacy Scholarship Program is independently administered by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Scholarship America. Scholarship Management Services is the largest U.S. designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.
Eligibility
Applicants to the McKesson Pharmacy Scholarship Program must be a:
- Child or grandchild of a drug store owner or pharmacist who is a McKesson primary account customer.
- OR Pharmacy student employed by a drug store owner or pharmacist who is a McKesson primary account customer. Each customer may sponsor applications for up to two pharmacy student employees.
All applicants must currently be enrolled in or have been accepted to an accredited School of Pharmacy and be in their 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th year of collegiate study. Pre-pharmacy students are not eligible.
Scholarships
Up to fifty $1,000 awards will be granted for one year of full-time study.
Awards may be renewed for an additional three years. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic progress, continued study in pharmacy, and the recipient not being subject to any disciplinary action.
Application Process
The eligible pharmacy student must complete the online application.
Start by clicking on Register to Apply at the bottom of this page. You will need to read and agree to a consent statement and register as an applicant. During the application process, you will be able to leave the site by clicking on the Save and Log Out link located in the left navigation menu on each application page. To return, you must log in with your username and password. The application must be submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m. on October 31, 2010.
You may wish to gather the following information that will be needed for the application process:
- McKesson Pharmacy Primary Account Customer (drugstore owner or pharmacist) first and last name, work phone number and email address
- McKesson Pharmacy Customer Primary Account #, store/pharmacy name, store/pharmacy address
- List of applicant’s work experience and involvement in school and community activities
- Applicant’s transcript of grades
- Short statement of applicant’s educational and career objectives
Carefully review your application before submission. We recommend that you print a hard copy of your application for your records. Do not send a printed copy to Scholarship Management Services. All application pages with required fields must be completed in the format described in order to submit the application. Standard capitalization (Jill Smith, not jill smith or JILL SMITH) must be used when entering data. Once the application is submitted, no further revisions can be made.
Required Supporting Documents
Applicants must also send the following documents to Scholarship Management Services postmarked no later than October 31, 2010:
- A completed Applicant Appraisal Form (click here to view and print the form)
- A copy of your acceptance letter from an accredited School of Pharmacy
- Complete transcript of grades from each postsecondary school attended. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
- English translations for all non-English documents
You, the applicant, are responsible for gathering and submitting all required information. Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; answer questions as completely as possible. Your application is considered confidential and is reviewed only by Scholarship Management Services.
Applicants will receive an emailed confirmation when the electronic application is successfully submitted. Late submissions and incomplete application packages will not be considered. If you do not receive acknowledgement that your application package is complete, it is your responsibility to contact Scholarship Management Services to check on your application's status.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals, and an outside appraisal.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship Management Services. In no instance does any McKesson officer, employee or customer play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Applicants will be notified of their status by mid-December. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship Management Services processes scholarship payments on behalf of McKesson Foundation, Inc. On or about December 30, Scholarship Management Services will mail the full scholarship award to each recipients home address. Checks are made payable to the school for the student.
Obligations
Recipients have no obligation to McKesson Foundation, Inc. or McKesson Corporation. They are, however, required to provide official transcripts when requested and to notify Scholarship Management Services of any change in address, school enrollment or other relevant information.
Revisions
McKesson Foundation, Inc. reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time, including termination of the program.
